A little history…
JMC was born August 23, 1949 following a meeting between Father J.H. Lemieux, Anaïs Allard-Rousseau, and Laurette Desruisseaux-Boisvert, who were brought together in St-Hyacinthe on the initiative of Gilles Lefebvre. Lefebvre suggested grouping the existing organizations devoted to cultural activity among young people, and submitted a plan of action calling for concert tours, new lines of administrative co-operation, scholarships, a summer camp, a permanent home, and exchanges between young performers.

A magnificent dream is always well rooted to a mission: to promote classical music, especially among youth, and to support the career development of the country’s finest young artists, both at home and abroad.

JMC’s contribution to the Canadian music scene is immense. Thanks to a network of several hundred volunteers that hosts its touring productions, JMC became one of the first organizations to present professional calibre concerts in outlying regions far from major urban centres. In so doing, since its inception, JMC has presented tens of thousands of concerts to young audiences, families, and the general public from coast to coast across Canada.

And the future looks just as promising…

An all-new home on the web!
JMC is currently working on putting together an all-new website that will go online on October 16. In short, nothing has been spared to make sure you get all the information you need about the movement.

A special page on the history and mission of Jeunesses Musicales is also being developed.

The Cecilia String Quartet in residence at JMC
Considered to be one of the finest young chamber ensembles in Canada, and made up of violinists Sara Nematallah and Min-Jeong Koh, violist Caitlin Boly, and cellist Rebecca Wenham, the Cecilia String Quartet will split its residence between the JMC House and the Schulich School of Music at McGill University over a two-year period. On the schedule at JMC are concerts presented as part of the Montreal “La musique sur un plateau” series, as well as other recitals that will be offered to JMC Centres and presenters across the country. JMC thereby hopes to support the career development of the members of this ensemble. Several other projects will also be a part of this initiative: work with a stage director, production of a promotional DVD/CD and print material, etc.

JMC artists in health care establishments
Throughout the 2009-2010 season, JMC artists will be giving concerts in various health care establishments in Montreal. A wonderful initiative of the Société pour les arts en milieux de santé (SAMS), these recitals will be presented to patients in several of the city’s long-term care facilities. JMC is proud to be associated with the SAMS and to be contributing to breaking the isolation of patients by enriching their living environments with music.

JMC is now working with Philanthropic Consulting Firm ÊTRE whose founding partners, Michel Pauzé and Richard Thérien, are in attendance. The expertise and creativity of the members of this firm—who enjoy an enviable reputation in the fields of communications, marketing, and philanthropy—will allow us to mark our organization’s milestone 60th anniversary in style, and to benefit from cutting-edge strategic guidance to help us pursue our awareness and funding goals.
